The best way to protect yourselves in the event of a bush fire is to leave the area but if you don't want to leave your home, then here are some safety tip to survive the fire.
To prepare your house before the bush fire:
Regularly clean leaves from gutters and fit metal leaf guards.
Screen vents on roof voids with metal wire mesh.
Keep wood and other flammable materials well away from the house.
Keep your lawn short and the backyard mess free from any build up of flammable material.
You should also have a Bush Fire Survival Kit which should contain the following:
A portable battery radio
Torch and spare batteries
Water containers(Filled)
Dried or canned food and a can opener
Matches
Fuel lamp
A first aid kit and manual
Masking tape for windows
Waterproof bags
What to do during the bush fire:

Close all windows and doors.
